A Tradition of Innovation in the Metal Fastening Industry

by | Feb 18, 2015 | Pneumatic Tube Supports

Since the early days of the Industrial Revolution, welding has played a significant role in the development of industries that have made the modern world what it is. The invention of reliable metal fasteners enabled mammoth ships, towering structures, and profitable oil rigs to be constructed, and ingenious men and women working in the industry have improved the safety and efficiency of these constructions through inventions that continuously refine the welding process.

During his career, Ted Nelson, a welder in a California shipyard during World War II, noted flaws in the welding process, including: inconsistent fusing due to the shifting of flux and exorbitant amounts of time spent welding large quantities of studs. He developed a modified stud for welding and a stud welding gun that made the process not only more accurate and consistent, but also faster. It was estimated by the U.S. Army that Nelson’s inventions saved the military some 50 million man hours.

At Production Fastening Systems (PFS) we’re following in the footsteps of pioneers like Nelson by addressing problems that confront engineers and by improving on the designs of metal fastening equipment. For more than 25 years, we have led the industry in ground-breaking new technologies that have been adopted by fabrication industries around the world.

In 1991, PFS developed Electrical Slotted Cable Hangers (ESLs) and Pneumatic Tube Supports (SLPs). From 1993 through 1997, we continued to improve on existing metal fastening technologies. We developed Pneumatic Tube Channel Brackets (PTCBs) and Mechanical Grating Clips (SGCs). Our GM Stand Mounting Brackets are a sturdy alternative to J-Bolts, allowing engineers to securely mount stands and other devices to grating.

Since 1997, we’ve been developing and improving Tube Separation Spacers to separate pneumatic tubes mounted inline clamps and other devices. In 2003, PFS developed the T-SEP Assembly, a retainer assembly for separating, elevating, and fastening pneumatic tube runs. Unlike alternative spacers, the T-SEP Assembly’s design reduces the opportunity for corrosion to develop in harsh offshore environments. We followed up the T-SEP Assembly with a non-metallic version in 2011, eliminating metal-to-metal contact.

Anyone can start a company and distribute a product. We’re committed to doing more because we’re not just distributors of metal fastening equipment at Production Fastening Systems; we’re also problem solvers and trailblazers.
