Production Fastening Systems offers top quality Arc Weld Studs

by | Apr 15, 2013 | Weld Studs

Arc stud welding is popular because of what it offers: the ability to quickly and efficiently join a metal stud to one side of a metal work piece without marring the other side. The dependability and ease of stud welding has made it one of the most common fastening methods utilized on offshore platforms and in steel fabrication and shipbuilding.

At PFS, we offer arc weld studs in a broad variety of shapes and sizes. The stud diameters we make available range from 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) to 1 ¼ in (31.8 mm), and we can provide studs of any length to meet your individual specifications.

Our arc weld studs are manufactured from AISI 1006-1020 low-carbon steel, 300 series stainless steel, and 5000 series aluminum, along with an arc stabilizing and deoxidizing flux. Low-carbon steels can be arc stud welded with no metallurgical problems, provided that the carbon level does not exceed 0.03%.

Be sure to keep in mind that steel with a carbon content greater than 0.03% must be evaluated before attempting to arc weld it and that if you plan to stud weld medium- or high-carbon steels, preheat must be used in order to prevent cracking in the heat-affected zones. As always, the most important factor regarding the area you’re working on is that material in that zone must be heavy (thick) enough to permit welding the studs without melting throref=ugh. Base material must be minimum 1/3″ thickness diameter of the weld stud.

Every arc stud we carry here at PFS is manufactured to meet the standards of the most respected associations within the offshore, shipbuilding, and steel fabrication industries, including the American Welding Society, ASTM, the U.S. Navy, and the American Bureau of Shipbuilding, as well as the Department of Highways and Transportation in all fifty states.
